Human activities and global warming: a cointegration analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using econometric tools for selecting I(1) and I(2) trends, we found the existence of static long-run steady-state and dynamic long-run steady-state relations between temperature and radiative forcing of solar irradiance and a set of three greenhouse gases series. Estimates of the adjustment coefficients indicate that temperature series is error correcting around 5e65% of the disequilibria each year, depending on the type of long-run relation. The estimates of the I(1) and I(2) trends indicate that they are driven by linear combinations of the three greenhouse gases and their loadings indicate strong impact on the temperature series. The equilibrium temperature change for a doubling of carbon dioxide is between 2.15 and 3.4 (C, which is in agreement with past literature and the report of the IPCC in 2001 using 15 different general circulation models. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Human Activities and Global Warning : A Cointegration Analysis
Do human activities indeed cause global warming? This paper attempts to answer this question by reexamining the time series properties of climate variables and the existence of long-run relationships between them. Double unit root testing shows that most of the radiative forcings of greenhouse gases are integrated of order two. We then apply an I(1) and I(2) cointegrating rank analysis to ident...
متن کاملMeat-eating: The Second Main Culprit of Climate Change
Background: Due to the greenhouse gases emission caused by human activities there is wide agreement about global warming. Methane is one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases in the global warming process which is produced through human activities and natural processes. In addition, the use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides would produce nitrogen monoxide in the atmosphere. This gas is an...

متن کاملEstimation of the Carbon Footprint in Dairy Sheep Farm
By 2050, the earth’s population is expected to be more than 9 billion. The need for secure food and water supply will force agriculture to increase production. The major greenhouse gases (GHGs) from the livestock sector are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) throughout the production process. These gases are the key contributor to an in...
متن کاملQuantification and assessment of effective of global warming on the occurrence of heat and cold waves in some selected stations in Iran
One of the atmospheric hazards that seriously affect human life and health is the occurrence of thermal tensions and stress in the form of heat and cold waves. Iran is one of the areas of the planet that has climate variability due to its geographical characteristics; therefore, consequently, its different regions are not immune to heat and cold waves. On the other hand, Iran's climate variabil...
متن کاملPlanktonic Foraminifera Response to Sudden Global Warming in Late Maastrichtian, a Case Study from Ziyarat-Kola, Central Alborz, Iran
An abrupt global warming event has been recorded in many parts of the world in sediments of Latest Maastrichtian age between 65.45-65.10 Ma. This warm event was documented here at a section near Ziyarat-kola in Central Alborz based on analysis of planktonic foraminifera. An unusual abundance of normally large-size species such as Globotruncana arca, Globigerinelloides subcarinatus, Pseudoguembe...
